It splits a total rent between roommates two ways: evenly, or in proportion to each person's income. The math is the whole tool — it can't weigh room size, amenities, or who signed. Whoever is named on the lease usually stays legally responsible for the full rent no matter how you divide it privately, so put whatever you agree on in writing.

How this calculator works
Equal mode divides total rent by the number of people. Income-weighted mode splits rent in proportion to each person's share of combined income (person's income ÷ total income × rent). Assumptions & limits: a fair split is whatever your household agrees to — this tool only does the arithmetic; it doesn't account for room size, amenities, or lease obligations. Whoever signs the lease usually remains legally responsible for the full rent regardless of any private split.
